Rankine to Fahrenheit Converter
How to convert Rankine to Fahrenheit
°F = °R − 459.67
To convert Rankine to Fahrenheit, subtract 459.67 from the value in Rankine.
1 °R = -458.67 °F
Examples
- Water freezes: 491.67 °R − 459.67 = 32 °F
- 500 °R − 459.67 = 40.33 °F
Good to know
The two scales use the same size of degree and differ only by an offset: °R = °F + 459.67.
The Rankine scale starts at absolute zero, so there are no negative Rankine temperatures.

Unit definitions
- Rankine (°R)
- The Rankine scale starts at absolute zero and uses degrees the same size as the degree Fahrenheit, so a temperature in degrees Rankine is the Fahrenheit temperature plus 459.67. It is used in some US engineering calculations.
- Fahrenheit (°F)
- On the Fahrenheit scale water freezes at 32 °F and boils at 212 °F at sea-level pressure, 180 degrees apart. It is the everyday temperature scale in the United States.
