Megabits to Bits Converter
How to convert megabits to bits
bits = megabits × 1,000,000
To convert megabits to bits, multiply the number of megabits by 1,000,000.
1 Mbit = 1,000,000 bit
Examples
- 100 Mbit × 1,000,000 = 100,000,000 bit
- One megabyte: 8 Mbit × 1,000,000 = 8,000,000 bit
Good to know
A unit of bits, not bytes: 8 bits make 1 byte. Bit units are used for transfer speeds, byte units for file and storage sizes.
8 bits make 1 byte. Bits (lowercase b) and bytes (uppercase B) are easily confused in abbreviations such as Mb and MB.

Unit definitions
- Megabit (Mbit)
- A megabit is 1,000,000 bits, equal to 125,000 bytes. Internet connection speeds are quoted in megabits per second (Mbps).
- Bit
- A bit is the smallest unit of digital information, a single binary value of 0 or 1. Eight bits make one byte.
