Celsius to Kelvin Converter
How to convert Celsius to kelvin
K = °C + 273.15
To convert Celsius to kelvin, add 273.15 to the value in Celsius.
1 °C = 274.15 K
Examples
- Normal body temperature: 37 °C + 273.15 = 310.15 K
- Water boils at sea level: 100 °C + 273.15 = 373.15 K
Good to know
The kelvin and the degree Celsius are the same size, so the two scales differ only by an offset: K = °C + 273.15. A temperature difference has the same number in both.
The kelvin scale starts at absolute zero, so there are no negative kelvin temperatures. Values are written without a degree sign: 300 K, not 300 °K.

Unit definitions
- Celsius (°C)
- The Celsius scale is defined as the temperature in kelvins minus 273.15, which puts the freezing point of water at about 0 °C and its boiling point at about 100 °C at sea-level pressure. It is the everyday temperature scale in most of the world.
- Kelvin (K)
- The kelvin is the SI base unit of temperature, defined by fixing the value of the Boltzmann constant. Its scale starts at absolute zero and its unit is the same size as the degree Celsius; it is used throughout science and engineering.
