Fahrenheit to Celsius Converter
How to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius
°C = (°F − 32) ÷ 1.8
To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 from the value in Fahrenheit, then divide by 1.8.
1 °F = -17.2222222 °C
Examples
- Normal body temperature: (98.6 °F − 32) ÷ 1.8 = 37 °C
- A common oven temperature: (350 °F − 32) ÷ 1.8 = 176.666667 °C
Good to know
The exact relationship is °F = °C × 1.8 + 32. Doubling the Celsius value and adding 30 gives a rough Fahrenheit estimate that is close at everyday temperatures, and the two scales read the same at −40.

Unit definitions
- Fahrenheit (°F)
- On the Fahrenheit scale water freezes at 32 °F and boils at 212 °F at sea-level pressure, 180 degrees apart. It is the everyday temperature scale in the United States.
- Celsius (°C)
- The Celsius scale is defined as the temperature in kelvins minus 273.15, which puts the freezing point of water at about 0 °C and its boiling point at about 100 °C at sea-level pressure. It is the everyday temperature scale in most of the world.
